Pilot Study Success: Unlocking Lower Half for Efficiency with Newtforce!

At our NewtForce Research and Development Center, our team recently embarked on an eight-week mission to enhance pitcher development, with a specific focus on optimizing the lower half mechanics for greater efficiency. We’re committed to work alongside our coaches and pitchers.

Our mission: create a proprietary program to harness the lower half potential within each pitcher by tailoring a unique, targeted medicine ball program. The results? It's a Pilot and we’re still really really excited.

🔬 Pilot Study Overview:

  • Location: NewtForce Research and Development Center

  • Duration: 8 weeks

  • Number of Subjects: 4

  • Mean Age: 16.3 years

  • Mean Height: 72.3 inches

  • Mean Weight: 201.1 lbs.

  • Mean Average Velocity (Day 1): 81.2 mph

  • Mean Max Velocity (Day 1): 82.6 mph

The Method:

Our journey began with thorough initial testing, using both a standard 5 oz. high school regulation baseball and a 6lb medicine ball. But here's where the magic happened: we didn't just stick to the status quo. Each subject received an individualized medicine ball program based on their unique ground force profiles and movement patterns. It was tailored to perfection.

Subjects followed their personalized medicine ball programs three days a week for approximately four weeks before returning for the second analysis. And guess what?

The Results:

The numbers don't lie:

Mean Average Fastball Velocity Increase: +1.9 mph
Mean Max Fastball Velocity Increase: +2.0 mph
All Subjects Experienced Increased Fastball Velocity

Subject Spotlight:

Let's dive into the individual success stories and provide more details into what we found.

Subject 1:
  • Average Fastball Velocity Increase: +1.6 mph

  • Max Fastball Velocity Increase: +1.4 mph

Subject 2:
  • Average Fastball Velocity Increase: +2.5 mph

  • Max Fastball Velocity Increase: +2.1 mph

Subject 3:
  • Average Fastball Velocity Increase: +2.1 mph

  • Max Fastball Velocity Increase: +2.7 mph

Subject 4:
  • Average Fastball Velocity Increase: +1.3 mph

  • Max Fastball Velocity Increase: +1.8 mph

"As a coach, I've seen countless pitchers improve, but the results our players achieved with NewtForce have been exceptional.Through the data and drills presented to our players they have had a direct plan where they understand their movements, have a prescription for improvement, and have seen skill acquisition. Our team experienced increases in multiple ground force metrics, as well as an average velocity increase of 2.0 mph in just two months! It's been a game changer for us!"

The Takeaway:

Our pilot study underscores the power of individualized, targeted training. By understanding each pitcher's unique lower half strengths and areas for improvement, we unlocked the potential for efficient velocity growth. This is about a more effective way to train your lower half to generate velocity more efficiently, which has enormous benefits even beyond a simple increase in velocity.

Stay tuned for more success stories, and remember: It's not about the quantity of training; it's about the quality.
